UNWTO Executive Board
Uzbekistan accedes to the Executive Board of UN World
Tourism Organization from the European Regional Group for 2011-2015 in the framework of
the 19th Session of the UNWTO in South Korean city of Gyeongju.
Uzbekistan is a member of the
UNWTO since 1993, which unites more than 150 countries. In eighteen years of
fruitful cooperation the Republic
of Uzbekistan has become a
venue for important events in the framework and under the auspices of this Organization.
Among them it is necessary to highlight the First Meeting of Countries of the
Silk Road (Samarqand, 1994), Seminar on Conservation of Cultural Heritage (Bukhoro,
1996), Third Meeting on Tourism Development on the Silk
Road (Bukhoro, 2002).
An important milestone
was the establishment in 2004
in Samarqand a UNWTO regional office, which aims to
coordinate activities of national tourism organizations of the Great Silk Road.
It created a unified data base, collected a valuable information on attractions
and historical monuments in these countries.
The regular meeting
of the World Tourism Organization held 8-9 October 2010 in Samarqand with its

market. The Uzbekturizm national company in conjunction with the UNWTO
developed the Action Plan on the Silk Road adopted at the meeting of the UNWTO
Development of Tourism on the Silk Road.
The Election of Uzbekistan to the Executive Board
of the World Tourism Organization will undoubtedly have a significant and
positive impact on the development of tourism in the vast region of the Great
Silk Road, which will make a significant contribution to the work of the
governing body of the UNWTO, will contribute to achieving high goals of the UN.
