In Pursuit of Key Goals
Providing for longer-term steady development
Report of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the Meeting of Government to review the socio-economic development in 2011 and the priorities for 2012 has stirred widespread debate in the social, political and expert analytical communities of foreign countries.
Political scientist, Professor Catherine Pujol from French National Institute of Oriental Civilizations said the figures provided in the report point to steady and sustained economic development of the country.
Economic and social indicators achieved in Uzbekistan are highly appreciated by international financial institutions, including the IMF, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and others. The sustained economic growth in Uzbekistan, which amounted to 8.5% for the last five years serve as evidence of the correctness of the tactics and strategy of the government of the republic in overcoming the effects of the global economic crisis and its impact on the national economy.
A special mention should be made on the development of the banking sector of the republic, who were also highly rated by reputable international rating agencies such as the Standard & Poor's, Moody's and Fitch Ratings, which for the second consecutive year assign stable ratings to the banking system of Uzbekistan.
As a representative of the French high school, I wanted to highlight the enormous attention given by the leadership of the country to multi-faceted development of social and cultural sphere and education. The fact that the country's State Budget for 2012 is scheduled to send more than 60% of total expenditure on social services and social support, tells about a heavy social component of ongoing programs in Uzbekistan. The most important achievement of Uzbekistan in this area is formation in the Republic of an integral continuous system of education, which includes the entire cycle of highly educated and professionally trained young generation. By investing in education, Uzbekistan contributes to the future, further economic progress and social well-being, the expert said.
