Aroma of spices, rejoice, sounds of national
instruments and surprised exclamations of tourists brought all inquisitive
guests to the 11th Festival “Silk and Spices” has taken place these
days in Bukhoro.
For many
years Bukhoro was the important center for trading of silk, spices and others
goods on the Great Silk Road. The town was famous for its copper-chased
manufacturing, jewelry, cotton fabrics, silk and velvet, golden embroidery and
big assortment of artistic products meant for everyday use. That was the reason
the town was chosen as the venue for this singular festivity. Fifty brilliant
masters of central Asia came together in
Bukhoro to demonstrate their magnificent handmade articles.
“I get lost
in such a diversity of products displayed in the trade show. I wonder how much
labor, endurance and inspiration requires each article,” shares her impressions
the tourist from Russia Natalia Tkachuk.
The fair
was, indeed, filled with great diversity of various articles… Real silks,
golden embroidered items, ceramic products, miniature, and woodcarving items -
are only a part of represented works among which the guests of the fair chose
out souvenirs keepsake.
“I’ve got
true delight from folklore show-programs taking place in squares Poi-Kalon and
Labi Hovuz. Performances of ropewalkers in Registan Square, folk songs executed by
the children’s chorus complemented the picture of the Eastern culture,” told
the tourist from South Korea Choong Lee.
Rapture and
cheerful mood have become the key guests of the festivity. The fair attendees
explored much about the applied art, getting rejoiced at every product, while
masters, at their turn, demonstrated their pieces with great pleasure.
The
Festival “Silk and Spices” is a singular tourist products arousing huge
interest in not a few number of foreign and local tourists. During the festival
guests get the opportunity to learn the unique historical heritage of Uzbekistan,
singularity and special features of its applied art, national customs and
traditions. Furthermore, the festival favors the preservation of cultural
heritage, popularization and support of folk trades and their further development.
This event
organized by the Bukhoro regional branch of the National Company Uzbekturizm
together with the city administration of Bukhoro and Association of Folk
Masters Hunarmand allows within a few days to get acquainted with handicraft
art of Uzbekistan, to taste Bukhoro sweets, take part in preparation of popular
Uzbek plov, as well as attend an ethnographic fashion show at which clothes
made from natural fabrics only are demonstrated.
