The
generation the nation relies on for its future – schoolchildren – embraced by Umid
Nihollari sports games
The three-level system of attracting schoolchildren,
students of professional colleges, academic lyceums and higher education
institutions to sports has long turned into a well-oiled machine, as games like
Umid Nihollari, Barkamol Avlod and Universiade each year gather a growing
number of young people from across Uzbekistan.
This year’s
final national stage of the school sports games Umid Nihollari will be held in
Navoi. The competitions in twelve sports (basketball, volleyball, handball,
football, athletics, gymnastics, swimming, chess, tennis, table tennis, Kurash
and belt wrestling) will challenge the most deserving, those who distinguished themselves
at the regional, national and even international competitions. But the main
achievement of Umid Nihollari 2012 could be already announced as the first
qualifying stages of the competition attracted as many as 4,271,696 children.
Think about
this figure as it vividly indicates to the government’s care taken of young Uzbek
citizens for educating a healthy and comprehensively developed generation, the path
the country is following from the very first days of independence. There is no
need to explain that these games are not just promote children's sports,
provide a basis for the education of talented athletes, but also unite young
people, strengthen the friendship ties among boys and girls across the country.
Participating
in the second district stages, children meet with their peers from other
schools, make new friends and expand their outlook, as the second stages involve
almost half a million children. During the spring school vacation children will
have the third, regional stages where they will be able to make more new
friends.
And when in
late May the finalists will meet in the youngest regional capital of
Uzbekistan, built to be a trueborn sport city, the games will turn into a real
festival of sport, while the beautiful sports arenas restored and presented in
conformity with modern requirements will not just be a venue for hot battles,
but also a center of communication of the young citizens of sovereign
Uzbekistan, the future of the country.
