MPs monitor mass media activities
The outcomes of the study of execution of the laws ‘On mass media’ and ‘On publishing activities’ in Andijon and Sirdaryo regions were discussed at the meeting the Committee for Information and Communication Technologies of the lower house of parliament.
Control and analytical work of deputies showed that Andijon and Sirdaryo regions have been consistently executing the laws ‘On mass media’ and ‘On publishing activity’. Andijon region runs about 40 media, and Sirdaryo region - about 30. The media there consistently covers sociopolitical, economic and spiritual life, the process of reforms and large-scale creative activities in all sectors.
Meanwhile, they revealed a range of deficiencies in execution of certain legislative acts relating to the media sphere. They mentioned an incomplete execution of obligations under the treaties between the founders and editorials, inobservance of the rules and standards when publishing newspapers and magazines, producing and broadcasting TV and radio programs.
The speakers stressed the need for advanced training of media workers, production of media products in conformity with modern standards, involvement of qualified journalists to work in editorials. They made some proposals on technical upgrade of the printing infrastructure, attraction of foreign investment and introduction of the latest information technologies to the publishing business.
