Committee for Democratic Institutions, NGOs and Citizens’
Self-Government Bodies of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis in conjunction
with the Tashkent regional administration in Bostonliq district held a panel
discussion on ‘Improving legal foundations of the family in Uzbekistan:
practice and legislation’.
Participants exchanged views on implementation of the tasks outlined in
the report of President Islam Karimov ‘Our way is to deepen democratic reforms
and gradually extend the upgrade of the country’ at a solemn meeting on the
occasion of the 19th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of
Uzbekistan, and improvement of the legislation.
According to experts, a scaled work is carried out in the country on
strengthening of spiritual and legal foundations of the family as the key
component of society, promotion of healthy lifestyle among youth, enhancement
of care for young families, guaranteeing their legal and social protection,
creation of conditions for establishment of strong families. As noted by the state’s
leader, a healthy family is first of all a healthy society, and therefore the
strong and stable country. Introduction of an article about a family into the
Constitution of the Republic
of Uzbekistan and adoption
of the Family Code also serve as an important legal basis in ensuring interests
of the family.
Basing on modern requirements it is envisaged to approve new laws to
further improve this important element of society and introduce relevant amendments
to existing legislation in the Year of Family.
These issues were spotlighted during the meeting,. They pointed out the
need to strengthen the role and importance of local community in this process
as a unique self-government body.
