The events aimed at raising the level of ecological
culture in population were held throughout the republic on the occasion of the
holiday. A big holiday was organized by the State Committee for Nature
Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with UNDP Office in
Uzbekistan in Mirzo Ulughbek amusement park in Tashkent. Activists of
ecological community, known figures of science, culture and art, representatives
of ministries and industrial enterprises, farms and youth organizations took
part in the activities.
Uzbek
authorities are constantly working on the improvement of the nature
conservation legislation and introduction of the most progressive regulations of
the foreign practice. For example, they strengthened procedures in the Law of
the Republic of Uzbekistan “On protected territories” to
ensure the execution of international liabilities on conventions “On biological
diversity”, “On marshlands of international importance”, “On protection of
migratory wild animals”. The country acts in compliance with the liabilities within
the adopted international conventions. Thus, the Republic
of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan signed an agreement aimed at
protection, reproduction and use of saiga. The document envisages the
coordination of joint efforts on conservation of the saiga population and
arrangement of conditions for their free migration in bordering territories of
neighboring countries. It corresponds with the solution by the UN General
Assembly to announce 2010 as International Year of Biological Diversity.
In compliance
with the amendments in the ecological legislation Uzbekistan introduced some new
categories and types of protected areas, such as complex (landscape) wildlife
preserves, protected natural territories and hatcheries. At present there are
nine state reserves, two national parks, six state preserves and republican center
for breeding rare types of animals.
They also started
up the activity on establishment of the State Natural Resources Cadastre using
the technology of geographic information systems to bring the activity to the
latest level.
The stands
in the park visually displayed the way how the abovementioned regulations and international
liabilities were put into effect. For instance, the stand of the
Nurota-Qizilqum information center in Yangiqishloq village of Forish
district of Jizzakh region told about ecological path excursions. Besides, the
center presented the stands of the mobile exhibition displaying photos of flora
and fauna of the native land. Those stands toured around the schools of the
region attracted sincere interest of children to the environment.
The
entertainment program of the holiday in the park was eventful and diverse: they
conducted intellectual and music contests, variety shows, demonstrated films on
ecology. They also organized an asphalt drawing contest Nature through the Eyes
of Children for young participants, as well as many other events.
