National University
of Uzbekistan was the first among national universities to create the
infrastructure for a corporate network
development and packing it with educational resources. As
a result, the Public Information and Training Center is currently
dealing with the development of networks’
content. The network covers all 14 buildings of the university. The UT correspondent was one of
the guests of the university who was given the opportunity to get acquainted with the process of creation of a virtual learning space.
Electronic resources of the corporate network of the National University are a portal that brings together information and education sites of its
departments. In order to make them all equally versatile and offering large scale of information useful
for self-education of students a single layout
was created. Each department has a copy
of it, and currently they fill it with the specific
content. Physics, philosophy, Uzbek philology, journalism
and law departments have already launched their websites; they are
available from any computer out of 700 university computers at
speed up to one gigabyte per
second. It was scheduled to
complete this work in other
departments by the beginning of 2011-2012 academic years.
Information and education sites
offer a Library section. This section is
currently filled with electronic versions of books and manuals
published by the faculty’s teaching
staff of the university. The
library section will collect
online tutorials and virtual labs. Apart from other things,
the Library posts educational and methodical
sets for each university subject. In
addition to the course program, they
contain texts of lectures of each
class, test questions, and advices
on the use of additional

The distance education section is designed for independent student work. It can be used for
in-depth acquisition of the material on a particular topic or course.
There are courses for all sections taught at the
university. The process of learning
is completely automated in those courses. The system monitors the
level of acquisition of a material. Proceeding to a higher level or another
theme of the course is possible only after successful completion
of a computer-based testing.
There is a special section for those who want to do science. It
contains rules and requirements
for those wishing to defend a candidate's or doctoral
thesis. The open discussion of the project is an important
stage in the process of preparation of the scientific work. Now this procedure
will get easier at the National University:
the dissertations will be published on sites of
the corporate network of the university,
and everyone can express
his/her opinion on the work.
Besides, there are all conditions for
electronic document management there. The
sites offer students and teachers
legal documents regulating the learning
process and relationships at the
university, class schedules, they can chat. In a word, there are all facilities to make this resource indispensable in terms of ensuring
the enhanced quality of education.
According to experts of the Public Information and Training Centre, the
resource will be integrated into such
networks as ZiyoNet
and Internet upon the completion of all creation-related
works in the portal. This will make it accessible
from any computer connected to these networks.
As informed by the university administration, the National University of
Uzbekistan will be presented by the portal
in the national network Electronic Education,
which will unite firstly all universities
of the country, and later on, lyceums and colleges.
