These days the Tashkent Palace
of Youth Creativity hosts the “Beauty and Health” international exhibition of
traditional medicine and cosmetology. Muhammad Hamrayev, the President of the
Expert Council of the International Association of Traditional Medicine named
after Abu Ali ibn Sina, and the Academy of Traditional Medicine of Uzbekistan,
shared his personal opinion about the event with the UT.
- This is the first exhibition of folk medicine in Uzbekistan.
What significance it has for further development of both modern healthcare and
traditional medicine?
- First of all,
this exhibition is a concern for the preservation of centuries-old traditions
of peoples living on the territory of modern Uzbekistan. Besides, the exhibition
should help to find answers to unsolved questions of modern healthcare. Since
modern synthetic drugs have a lot of side effects doctors more use folk
medicine. In addition it is much better for prevention and treatment of chronic
diseases.
And I would like
to emphasize the great advantages of traditional medicine of the people of Uzbekistan,
which are described in the books of Abu Ali ibn Sina and other healers. And the
International Exhibition, of course, it is of great importance in exploration
and development of the traditional medicine, and production of medicines by
forgotten recipes.
- The Academy
of Traditional Medicine of Uzbekistan
is famous for production of drug by ancient recipes. What new products are you
planning to present at the exhibition?
- We have a of
lot new products. For example, we will present a new balsam
‘Tangritog Zamzami’ for prevention of atherosclerotic plates and a mix of herbs
and agriculture products ‘Matbuh Halila’ for prevention and treatment of thyroid
gland diseases. We also will present the new medication ‘Ognevka’ (pyralid, wax
moth) developed by our academy in collaboration with renowned Russian healer
Gennady Malakhov. This drug combines pyralid’s extracts, echinacea, royal jelly
and peppermint. It is effective in the treatment
of many diseases of the cardiovascular system, reproductive organs and other diseases.
It was developed on the basis of ancient sources of traditional medicine and
scientific research of Abu Ali ibn Sina. By the way, an extract of moth is
studied by many leading research institutions as a basis for creation of new
immunity drugs.
- Do you think that international cooperation is
important in development of folk medicine?
- Yes, as almost
every meeting result in new ideas and projects. Thus, I read a lot about using
of ethereal varieties of roses in the preparation of various medicines in the
writings of the great healers, who lived and worked on the ground in Uzbekistan.
However, I didn’t pay proper attention to it until I visited Iran, where such drugs and are widely used, and Bulgaria,
where the medicinal properties of this plant are studied by a research
institute. Today we plan to establish plantations of this plant at the Academy and
resume the production of drugs from it. I think that the upcoming exhibition
will bring new portion of similar ideas
- And seedlings, I assume, have already been delivered
to Uzbekistan?
- We do not need
to import them at all. We have a variety of Bukhoro ethereal rose. It was used
by tabibs (healers) to make healing jam against tuberculosis. The rose water
was used for prevention of brain diseases, rose oil was used to treat the
spleen and as an ingredient of more complex herbals.
