Remembering people, appraising their works and extracting lessons of life and creativity is a fine initiative turned a kind tradition for the Center of National Arts of the Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan Foundation. Commemoration meeting is one of the popular events organized here and bringing together numerous culture, art and literature figures. The attendees of similar actions have already paid tribute to such outstanding persons as Chingiz Ahmarov, Ro’zi Choriyev, Galina Pugachenkova and many others. This time the halls of the Center were decorated with the works of the People’s Artist of Uzbekistan, academician, laureate of state prize, professor Malik Nabiyev who would turn 95 this year.
Malik Nabiyev lived long and very fruitful creative life. He is the author of lots of canvases that charm by their spirituality and truthfulness of the images created. He was definitely intelligent person. Preferring the portrait genre, before starting to create one or another image, the artist studied the history, looked through lots of photos, studied archives and read much, that is profoundly studied the history of those persons whom he was going to create. It was important for him to know and understand. Malik Nabiyev created a whole gallery of historical portraits – Amir Temur, Bobur, Al Farg’oniy, Al Beruniy, and many others. The portrait of Amir Temur got the international recognition and was approved as the model of the image of the great commander and statesman. This recognition inspired the artist who meticulously studied historical documents and books, archive files about Amir Temur and his epoch.
Their children recall that Malik Nabiyev always used to say, “Every portrait I have created is a child I brought up and matured, is the fruit of my creativity.”
The products of other genres place worthy place among numerous works of the artist, such as landscapes and still lives by means of which the author reflected his love for home place and nature. He visited over forty countries in Europe, Asia, and America in order to see those famous architectural monuments, museums and exhibition halls that preserve brilliant products of other artists. Having studied various trends of the world art he stayed true to the traditions of realism. Such are the sketches and canvases displayed in the exhibition the artist created impressed by his travels to India, Indonesia, Cuba and Sri-Lanka.
Over the whole creative path of the artist had been surrounded by his apprentices. The artist’s sons say that the door of their house was always kept opened. Malik Nabiyev founded and for 45 years headed the department of fine art and painting at the Nizomiy Tashkent State Pedagogical University. For this period he brought up the whole dynasty of artists many of whom today fruitfully create and get worthy recognition. The exhibition has been attended by lots of youngsters, students of colleges, institutes for whom this evening turns memorable because they found out many new about the artist who devoted his creativity to the history and culture of Uzbekistan.
“He was very interesting, creative person,” tells the apprentice of Malik Nabiyev, now the Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Hikmat Jalilov. “He was rather extraordinary artist. He liked to discuss on his products with the apprentices and always took into account the opinions of even the youngest ones. When we drew sketches in the open air, he always told us that we should explore every detail of it. He said that it is impossible to become an artist without drawing the nature. He learnt us that we should take the best from the nature, synthesize it and then let it through and at last, depict it in our works.”
The exhibition entitled as “Generation” was timed to the artist’s jubilee. Totally 40 works created by Malik Nabiyev, his son Husan Nabiyev and grandson Anvar were displayed here. They all work in different directions of the art. If Malik Nabiyev preferred the historical genre, his son Husan likes to draw landscapes and still lives, while the grandson studying traditional culture and folk art is engaged in painting and miniature.
“Father left us rich heritage, and I think that we and the youth engaged in the art should know and remember such people as he, to learn on the example of his biography and creativity,” said the artist Husan Nabiyev, son of Malik Nabiyev’s.
Since the old days, father sees the son as his successor; mother her daughter, passing on their skills, experience and secrets of creativity. That is they way they carry the light of art through generations preserving fine traditions. And the family of Malik Nabiyev is the vivid illustration of it.
