This year the people of Uzbekistan widely celebrate the 100th anniversary of the People’s Writer of Uzbekistan Abdulla Kahhar whose productive and diverse activity became one of the brightest phenomena in the history of modern Uzbek literature.
The main jubilee celebration will take place in mid September this year. Thereupon, preparatory works for this key event are about to end. Nodira Jalalova, Director of Abdulla Kahhar’s Museum House, talked about it in the interview with UT.
Major repair works have been completed in the museum building, its roof and façade. We have restored around five thousand displays. It is the personal things of Abdulla Kahhar, furniture, paintings, books, household things and others. At present the museum’s staff is fully installing the exposition, and the instillation is expected to end by the start of academic year. After all, schoolchildren, students and admirers of Abdulla Kahhar’s creation are constant visitors of our museum and we are thoroughly preparing for this event.
The books are growing in number due to new editions. Recently the museum has received four new editions. A copy of new book “Ustoz ibrati” (“The Example of Master”) with dedicatory inscription of its author, well-known Uzbek literary critic, Umarali Normaov, is among them. The book describes Abdulla Kahhar’s creation, interesting episodes of his life and author’s memorials about his wonderful meetings with the writer.
Another book, given to our museum, is “Adabiyotimiz faxri” (“The Pride of Our Literature”). It is a collection of scientific articles and reports made by popular literary critics this year in events dedicated to Abdulla Kahhar’s 100th anniversary.
Another interesting edition is “Xalq sevgan adib” (“The Writer, Loved by People”). It is a methodic and biographic book that includes reference sources of the writer’s works and articles of his students.
And the last book is “Abdulla Qahhor va mustaqil davri o’zbek adabiyoti” (“Abdulla Kahhar and Uzbek Literature of the Period of Independence”), issued as a result of conference on the writer’s anniversary that took place in Termez. It includes reports made at this conference.
According to N. Jalalova, an installation of bronze bust of Abdulla Kahhar in front of his museum is dated for the jubilee celebrations, and its author is the well-known Uzbek sculptor Ravshan Mirtojiev.

Several presentations are expected there: a film directed by Umid Arpekov and written by Naim Karimov dedicated to Abdulla Kahhor’s life and creation and two new books, issued by the Publishing House named after Gafur Gulyam. One of them is “A Selection” that contains stories, memoirs, publicistic and literary critical articles written by Abdulla Kahhar in different years.
