A single system of long-term preservation of
biodiversity, biological resources and inimitable natural landscapes has been
created and successfully implements in Uzbekistan.
It was
noted in the round-table meeting in Tashkent
organized by the State Committee for Nature Protection and Ministry of
Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan.
Scaled
works are being carried out in the country on rehabilitation and multiplication
of unique flora and fauna, as well as improvement of its protection. The system
of conservation nature territories includes eight preserves, two state
reserves, five monuments of nature, and republican center for breeding rare
species of animals Jeyran. Since last year to the decision of the Uzbek
government the first in central Asia the Lower Amudaryo State Biosphere Reserve
started functioning that combines the preservation of biological diversity and
biological resources with interests of local people and business entities in
this territory.
The
protected areas have considerable number of plants and animals included in the
list of National and International Red Books.
Workers of
the Ecocenter Jeyran deal with breeding rare species of representatives of
desert fauna - goitered gazelle, onager, Przhevalski horse and Bukhoro wild
sheep.
The
government raises the financing of preserves from year to year. Only for the
period of 2005 – 2010, it increased by almost fifty percent.
International
organizations also contribute in implementation of projects on preservation of
biodiversity of ecosystem, species of animals and plants.
At the round-table meeting the attendees reviewed
the issues on extending protected areas, entering amendments to the legislation
of the republic for the better maintenance of nature protection activity.
