During the whole week Tashkent was the hosting center for fashion and beauty, the crossroad of the East and West. The second Style.Uz Week was organized by the “Forum of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan” Foundation, Dom Stilya (House of Style) and the Association of Modelers of Uzbekistan “Osiyo Ramzi” (Symbol of Asia).

This event gathered in one place everyone who interested in fashion, style, design, and the beauty at all, and which is assisted to the deepening of international exchange in the sphere of fashion and paving the way for local designers toward international scene.
Interesting events such as fashion show of the popular designers from Uzbekistan, Russia, France, Japan and Germany, fashion and design exhibition, master-classes, contests, afterparties with the participation of well-known foreign DJs and many other events were held within the bounds of the Week.
An amazing general defile was organized at the opening ceremony in the Center of National Arts. Leading designers from Tashkent Dom Stilya and international participants such as Ritsuko Shirahama and Toshikazu Iwaya from Japan, John Ribbe from France and others demonstrated their collections at that day.
Alongside with fashion-shows, people had an opportunity to communicate with the leading designers of the world during master-classes Andre Rau, the popular photographer from France, Ritsuko Shirahama, the leading designer of Japan, Alexandra Lukash and Igor Stupnokov, style masters from Moscow, Russia, Pascal Morabito, French designer, and at last, Vyacheslav Zaytsev, the well-known designer from Moscow were among those who gave master-classes in one of the Halls of UzExpoCenter. Vyacheslav Zaytsev in his interview to UT correspondent said that participation in the Style.Uz Week in Tashkent gave him a lot of pleasure. “National dress art in your country has a rich history and traditions. And this fashion event you conducted showed that the Uzbek young designers’ creative searches and aspirations are prospective. Besides, I was in the unique concert held in the Grand Navoi Theatre within the framework of the Week with the participation of the Uzbek master-singers and pop-stars. I was delighted with performances of Mansur Toshmatov and Farrukh Zokirov, they are fabulous singers of Uzbekistan. During the Week I met a number of interesting people, and hope to maintain close contact with them, in particular with Tashkent House of Style”, stressed Vyacheslav Zaytsev.
The Festival of National Dress was the brightest event of the Week, where a big variety and beauty of the provinces were demonstrated. So the festival was conducted as contest, winners were announced at the end of it. Mukhammad Hayot – “Bekasam” (bekasam is the Uzbek national fabric) collection, Zulfiya Rakhmatullina – “Zulfiya”, Zuhra Khodjayeva – “Turpara”, Nilufar Ahmedova – “Bukhoro zari” (zar is the goldish embroidery) were found the best ones. Dildora Avezova from Bukhara and Saodat Rustamova from Tashkent also became winners of the Festival-contest of National Dress. Both are the students of the Tashkent Institute for Textile and Light Industry. One of the girls is a master of tambour embroidery, and another is modeler-constructor. The idea to create a mutual collection joined them and they represented an amazing set of dresses in their collection titled “Blooming gardens”.
“We wanted to create something interesting for a long time, and think we did it. We used tambour embroidery, because nowadays, this is very topical. Now we have a plan to make another collection for children. We are glad to participate in the Style.Uz Week, which becomes a big stimulus for youth to enrich their knowledge about fashion and design, and for further creative searches”, said in their interview Saodat Rustamova and Dildora Avezova.
Moreover, new names of young talented designers were announced during another show-contest “Underground”: Marat Ne’matov, Diana Melnikova, Nataliya Ovcharova, Rufiya Akhmadiyeva, and Larisa Belaya.
Leading fashion and design companies of Uzbekistan, design developments and works of creative youth were represented at the exhibition, which has held during the Week. This year, works of winners of “Kelajak ovozi” Republican Contest were displayed at the exhibition. One of the stands was dedicated to the culture and fashion of Japan represented by guests arrived from that country.
Pascal Morabito, the honourary guest of the Style.Uz Week, who visited the exposition said that he was amazed. “I am for the first time in Tashkent, and also have been in Samarkand, and can say that I liked these cities and your country at all. I impressed of mastery of the Uzbek designers. Especially, I like your fabrics, and dresses made in combination of national traditions and modern tendencies. I also like exhibits of textile displayed in exposition and works of young designers, winners of “Kelajak ovozi”, they are very original and interesting. In my opinion, Tashkent Design and Fashion Week Style.Uz has a big future, because of refresh views to traditions open new prospective for Uzbekistan”, Pascal Morabito emphasized.
During the Week another interesting project was began its function – AZIA Gallery, which aimed to assist of developing of contemporary fine art of Uzbekistan and widening international ties in this sphere. For the first time, AZIA Gallery is hosting exposition of Dmitriy Akhunbabayev, one of the leading artists of Uzbekistan, titled “Province. Pastel and Photo”.
Closing ceremony of the Week became the brightest event, where the best, presented during these days, was demonstrated. Representatives Well-known Fashion Houses of France such as Smalto, Feraud and Inès de la Fressange, leading designers of Russia – Vyacheslav Zaytsev and Masha Tsigal were honorary guests of the Week’s closing day.
“I was at the first week of the Style.Uz, and so this year. I think that this time all events were organized on a high professional level. A big interest was shown by people and especially youth visited all events of the Week. And it also should be noticed that there were a lot of guests from France, so I thank “Forum of Culture and art of Uzbekistan” Foundation for inviting them. Both Uzbek and French designers demonstrated interesting collections, and we suggested organizing students’ exchange. Because, your designers would work in another conditions and French students would have an opportunity to work with the Uzbek fabrics, which are wonderful”, said Hugues Baltzinger, Council on cultural cooperation of the Embassy of France in Uzbekistan.
“This is true, progress is perceptible. The program of this year’s Style.Uz Week is widened as in scales so in numbers of participants. Selecting criteria was sharply defined, so selection of participants was stricter. There were so many ideas. Summarizing the Week I can say that fruitful creative interchange was done”, stressed Elmira Akhmedova, Director of the Center of National Arts, and member of the jury of the Festival of national dress and Underground show-contest.
