Several centuries ago the Uzbek people gave the
world the talented writer and poet, statesman and ordinary man with rich and
singular inner world whose scientific works and artistic products are still
considered the heritage of the world literature and inspire millions of readers
and make them to take a different view to life. That is why the people of Uzbekistan
mark the 571st date of birth of Alisher Navoi so stately.
Born to the
family of the Temurids’ officer Ghiyosiddin Kichkina, Alisher Navoi received a
fine education and from early childhood lived in courtly atmosphere of science
and creativity. Yet in 15 the young man showcased as the promising poet writing
verses in Central Asian languages – the Turkic and Farsi.
Getting
matured, Alisher Navoi got the high rank of keeper of seal at the court of the
governor of Khuroson Sulton Husayn Boyqaro, and later, owing to his intellect
and quick wits, was appointed as the vizier and was given the title of emir. He
had the reputation of fair and humane person with progressive views on life. He
also patronized scholars, creative people and carried out constructive
activities managing the building of madrasahs, hospitals, bridges and other
architectural constructions.
However,
the major part of his life Alisher Navoi devoted to creativity and he kept in
mind of peoples as the talented poet and writer, founder of Uzbek literary
language. His creativity is so wide and versatile that barely possible to be
described in short. Rich heritage of the Uzbek poet made its influence in the
development of literature of many Turkic people. His poems were translated into
many languages, and manuscripts are kept in major libraries of the world. In
his products Alisher Navoi glorified nobleness, courage and love, revealing
high spirituality of the Uzbek people. In view of special significance of his
products in the development of the world literature there appeared such a field
of scientific investigation as Navoi history.
In Uzbekistan, the
legacy of the outstanding forefather is treated with special respect and
esteem. For the passed year, plenty of bright and significant events have been
held in the country in homage to the memory of the poet. In particular, building
of the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi considered the
major information-library institution and cultural center of the country and
possesses almost the full collection of national printing and publications from
abroad. Besides, a souvenir edition of selected works by Alisher Navoi was
published in 2011 in
10 volumes. They include absolutely all known products of the poet created by
him in various genres. The edition evoked a warm response from connoisseurs of
the Uzbek classical literature, as well as those from abroad.
Alisher
Navoi is a worthy example for the younger generation. Unconventional beauty and
deep meaning of his poems encourage the youth to new achievements, noble and
worthy actions.
“Today we
get education in accordance with modern requirements. All conditions are
created in the country for upbringing the youth on the basis of spiritual
values and rich heritage of our people,” says the student of the Uzbek State
University of World Languages, holder of the Alisher Navoi state scholarship
Nilufar Shavkatova. “Products by the great forefather Alisher Navoi express
deep respect for the mother tongue and at the same time arouse in readers the
aspiration for learning foreign languages.”
Research
works on study of scientific and artistic legacy of Alisher Navoi, his
biography and other spheres of activity are conducted constantly at the Alisher
Navoi Institute of Language and Literature. The publishing activity of the
Institute is quite saturated as well.
“Generations
read, study and apprehend the creative legacy of Alisher Navoi in their own
way,” says the key fellow at the Alisher Navoi Institute of Language and
Literature Rahmatulla Barakaev. “Research works are still conducted all
throughout the globe for to apprehend the gist of his products. Every date of
birth of the genius of the Uzbek literature is a true occasion for all
representatives of science, culture and art.”
In accordance with the tradition, every morning of
February 9 admirers of Alisher Navoi’s creativity gather at the monuments of
the poet in the National Park for to lay flowers and pay tribute to the great
ancestor. At this very day and next a number of scientific conferences,
creative
meetings , concerts, evenings of poetry, art exhibitions and other
actions are to be held throughout the republic timed to the 571st
date of birth of Alisher Navoi. One of them is the annual Republican
scientific-practical conference organized for the 56th time by the Academy of Sciences
of Uzbekistan,
Union of Writers and Alisher Navoi Institute of Language and Literature these
days. The conference was opened with keynote speech by the director of Alisher
Navoi Institute of Language and Literature, Professor Nizomiddin Mahmudov and
congratulations by the vice president of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences,
Professor Bahrom Abduhalimov. The conference participants were presented
reports by the People’s Poet of Uzbekistan Erkin Vohidov “Artistic Figurative
Means in Navoi Lyrics”, Candidate of Philology Suvon Meli “Navoi and Plato:
Dialogue in World of Ideas”, Doctor of Philology Nusratulla Jumakhoji “Principles
of Analysis of Ghazals by Navoi”, as well as verses by the poet Mahmud Toir “His
Majesty Navoi” and others.
