The Uzbek State Drama Theater has prepared
another surprise for its admirers. It is turned the premiere of the colorful
play Zubayda, staged by the director Sayfiddin Meliev on the basis of the eponymous
play by the Italian playwright Carlo Gozzi. The distinctive staging kept in
mind of the audience with its beautiful and emotional plot and inimitable play
of actors.
The idea to
stage the play appeared in Sayfiddin Meliev about five years ago. At that time
the director got interested in the creativity of the Italian writer lived in
the 18th century who used folklore elements of plot and principles
of comedy dell'arte in choosing masked
characters. It is noteworthy that in one of his works Carlo Gozzi quite
interestingly and expressively described the ancient cities of Uzbekistan –
Samarqand, Bukhoro and Khiva. The director of the Uzbek State Drama Theater
considered the play Zubayda topical even for today.
The plot, full of bright moments,
breathtaking scenes and unexpected turn-ups, tells about a tragic history of
love of the navigator Sinbad and his wife Zubayda. It is also touched upon the
issue of the present – human traffic. Heat of emotions, courage and valor of
key characters, their decisive and eccentric actions do not leave the audience indifferent,
while the colorful decorations make them to feel themselves in that old times
when the events at the tragicomedy Zubayda happened.
The
backward genre attracts people’s attention to the history with the aim to
recreate the picture of the passed centuries where the elements of the Italian
folklore are represented. Yet, basing on the creative ideas of the director
Sayfiddin Meliev, the play was decorated with traditional colors of the
national culture of Uzbek people. For example, Italian jesters were replaced
with Uzbek jokers.
Famous
musical compositions touched the hearts of many generations of spectators were
performed in the play. Another feature of the staging was the presence of
rocking dances, demonstrating rich culture of various peoples. Interesting, all
dances in the play were performed by actors themselves with no participation of
professional ensembles.
“We worked
much under the staging of the play Zubayda and all actors tried to do their best.
As a result, the premiere was a great success,” tells the director Sayfiddin
Meliev. “This tragicomedy is meant for the audience of all ages. It would evoke
the interest in the youth and older people as well.”
Such actors
as Shohida Uzoqova, Farhod Muhtorov, Haybulla Djumanov, Nozima raimbekova,
Tamara Hazratqulova, Sardor Mansurov, and others were involved in the play. The
director says that for the role of Zubayda he chose the actress Shohida
Uzoqova.
“It was a
great pleasure to play Zubayda, to get into her interesting and extraordinary
character. The audience got the delight and it is the biggest prize for our
work,” emphasized the Honored Artist of Uzbekistan Shohida Uzoqova.
The
creative process at the Uzbek State Drama Theater does not stop even in a minute;
its talented troupe intends to stage many more new plays, including those
occasioned to the Year of Family, which 2012 was announced.
