Uzbekistan Olympic team has managed to reach the Asian Championship U-23, which will be held in January next year in Qatar. This championship will serve as a qualifying for the Olympics.
The qualifying round for AFC U-23 Championship has been completed, and the national team of Uzbekistan failed to directly qualify for the continental championship. The team’s fate depended on the final placement in the group B.
So, the final qualifying matches in the group B passed on May 20, and Jordan played draw with Kuwait - 3: 3. After this result, Jordan with seven points reached the Asian championship as a group leader, while Kuwait came second, gaining four points. This result was enough to Uzbekistan national team to reach the final of the tournament, as it gained six points.
According to the rules, only the group winner passes to the final round of the Asian championship. However, the team placed second still has a chance to get to this tournament. According to the results of all the matches five best teams had to be determined, which gained maximum points and had the best goal difference.
The national team of Uzbekistan on additional indicators stood in fifth place among the teams ranked second. If one of the teams in the group B - Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan - took second place and won more points than our team, Uzbekistan players would left out of the tournament.
The Asian Championship in Qatar will fulfill the role of the qualifying for the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
