Teams of regular WBA heavyweight Uzbek champion Ruslan Chagaev and Australian Lucas Brown agreed to fight and avoid bidding. The fight will take place in late February or early March in Grozny, R-Sport reported.
Earlier, WBA obliged the sides of Chagaev and Brown, who is the mandatory challenger for the belt, to arrange the fight until 30 November. In July, Chagaev knocked out Italian Francesco Pianeta in the first round of his first title defense of the regular WBA champion in Germany. This belt Chagaev won in July 2014 in Grozny, defeating Fres Oquendo from Puerto Rico. However, the parties of Chagaev and Oquendo were obliged to fight a rematch after several months of litigation. It was scheduled for October 17 in Kiel, Germany, but did not take place due to injury of Oquendo.
"We agreed on the fight with Brown. There will not be any bidding. Now we are working out all derails. We will announce everything soon. I can say that the fight will take place in late February or early March in Grozny," Timur Dugazaev, promoter of Chagaev, said by phone.
