Moldova national team intended to play the friendly match with Uzbekistan on February, 9. The game was scheduled to take place in Turkey. Another match could be played with Romania, according to the Moldovan Publika.
"During the negotiations with Uzbekistan, there was a proposal to hold a friendly match with Romania. It was scheduled to play on the fourth or fifth day of February in Antalya," vice-president of the Football Federation of Moldova Ion Testemitanu said.
However, due to tensions in the region, Uzbekistan and Armenia refused gatherings in Turkey.
Our team decided to hold them in the United Arab Emirates, and Romanians - in Spain.
"We wanted to play with Uzbekistan in the United Arab Emirates and waited for a response from Romanians. Romanians wrote that would hold a gathering in Spain or even abandon it" Ion Testemitanu told.
As a result, the Football Federation of Moldova refused gatherings in Turkey and the friendly match with Uzbekistan in the United Arab Emirates.
"A variant to play with Uzbekistan has been canceled. We had to refuse to hold a friendly match. Moldovan Football Federation cannot afford to spend as much funding for one match," Ion Testemitanu said.
Now the Moldovan Football Federation is searching for an opponent for a friendly match in March.
