July 15-17, the Republican Tennis School of Olympic Reserve in Tashkent will host the match between Uzbekistan and China teams in the first group of Asia and Oceania within the Davis Cup.
The winning team will receive the right to play in the playoff for access to the World League, the press office of the Tennis Federation informs.
Uzbekistan and Chinese teams have met eight times in the World Team Championships. Total score – 5/3 in favor of Uzbekistan athletes. The first match was held over 20 years ago. In 1995, Uzbekistan tennis players in the match against China for entering the first group of Asia and Oceania were defeated with a minimum score of 2/3.
Over the past two years the national teams have not undergone radical changes. The leader of the Chinese team is Di Wu. He is the 158th in the world ranking. He is supported by Ze Zhang (160). Some changes were expected in the doubles. Yan Bai had to replace an experienced Zhe Li in the pair with Maoxin Gong. These athletes in the first round of the Davis Cup quite confidently beat the Pakistani players scoring 5/0. However, after the official announcement of the teams the first change was made in the Chinese team - due to injury Yan Bai was replaced by Zhe Li.
The national team of Uzbekistan includes Denis Istomin (116), Farrukh Dustov (222), Sanjar Fayziev (578), and Djurabek Karimov (754). Djurabek Karimov is the youngest player, he is 18, and only beginning to gain ranking points among professionals. He is a finalist of the Open Junior Championship in Australia, and participant of the Wimbledon Men’s Grand Slam Tournament.
