Three cities to erect monument to Islam Karimov

According to the Resolution "On perpetuation of the memory of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov", signed on 25 January 2017, a memorial complex shall be erected in the city of Samarkand, in the territory where the burial place of President Islam Karimov is located.

In addition, following the results of the international creative competition, monuments will be erected in our nation's capital – the city of Tashkent, in Samarkand, where he was born and raised, and in the Kashkadarya region, where he worked as the head of the Kashkadarya region.

Scientific-educational memorial named after Islam Karimov shall be built in the city of Tashkent, at the Oqsaroy residence (Uzbekistan street, 45), where he had worked as the First President for many years. The Republican charity public fund named after Islam Karimov will also operate there.

A Museum of Islam Karimov will be opened in the city of Samarkand.

The document also said that the following institutions and facilities will be named after Islam Karimov:

- Tashkent State Technical University;

- automobile plant in Asaka;

- Palace of arts in the city of Ferghana;

- Tashkent international airport;

- the main streets in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Tashkent city and areas (based on the proposals of local authorities);

Shavkat Mirziyoev also ordered to establish a State scholarship named after Islam Karimov for students of higher educational establishments; to publish scientific and artistic works, documentaries and feature films about the life and activity of Islam Karimov; as well will to issue a special postage stamp with a portrait of Islam Karimov.
