Expressing concern that 800 million people remain chronically undernourished, and 600 million adults are obese, the UN General Assembly proclaimed the period from 2016 to 2025 the Decade of the United Nations Action on Nutrition.
The resolution on this issue was adopted by the delegates of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly last Friday. Its co-authors called the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to lead efforts to implement the Decade of Action on Nutrition in collaboration with the World Food Programme, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, and the United Nations Children's Fund. The FAO called the adopted document an important step towards the mobilization actions contributing reduce malnutrition and improving nutrition system as a whole. The General Assembly Delegates called all the Member States to work towards elimination of hunger and prevent all forms of poor and unhealthy nutrition all around the world.
