In his letter, Suma Chakrabarti confirmed his personal commitment, like the Bank, to a new beginning of the partnership between the EBRD and Uzbekistan.
"We are ready to support the efforts of the government of Uzbekistan in the field of reforms aimed at providing opportunities and growth that will benefit the country and its citizens. Your Strategy for further development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021 reflects many of the priority areas of the Bank. We note that it emphasizes the importance of strengthening democratic processes and civil society, liberalizing the economy, improving the business climate and the rule of law, as well as strengthening relations with Uzbekistan's neighbours," Suma Chakrabarti writes.
The EBRD head also noted that the Memorandum of Understanding, which he signed with the First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Achilboi Ramatov, reflects the short-term approach during which the EBRD's medium-term Country Strategy will be developed in Uzbekistan.
It also follows from the letter that joint projects will be implemented to support small and medium-sized businesses and the banking sector, further improve the investment climate, projects in the field of utilities, infrastructure, energy and other areas.
