Presidential election results of Uzbekistan submitted to UN

Information about the results of presidential elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan was disseminated in six official UN languages at the 71st session of the UN in New York.

The document notes that the citizens of our country reiterated their support of the course of the ongoing reforms in the country. The Central Election Commission of the Republic on the basis of submitted protocols of district election commissions determined that 87.73% of the total number of voters in the country casted their vote on 4 December 2016.

The information states that the electoral process was held in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Laws "On guarantees of electoral rights of citizens" and "On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan", ensuring the rights of citizens to freedom of expression and the principles of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot.

"The evidence of democratic and transparent electoral campaign was the participation of some 600 observers from 46 states and five international organizations – the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Association of World Electoral Bodies and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. More than 37,000 observers from political parties also participated in monitoring the elections", - the document says.
