President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visits May 27-29 the Republic of Korea.
President Park Geun-hye and President Islam Karimov are scheduled to discuss ways for the Korean businesses to participate in the industrial modernization and development of infrastructure in Uzbekistan as well as further expansion of cooperation in various areas, including defense industry, national defense, training of qualified manpower and various other areas.
According to the Korean Yonhap News Agency, this is the first visit of Islam Karimov to the Republic of Korea after the elections in March, 2015. “This fact illustrates the willingness of Tashkent to showcase the significance of relations with Seoul.”
Uzbekistan is a major trade partner of South Korea among Central Asian countries. Last year, the volume of bilateral trade made $1.9 billion. Since his presidency Islam Karimov has visited South Korea seven times.
