Before leaving Uzbekistan, the head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has shared his impressions of the meetings and talks held in the country.
“First of all, I want to say that it was a great pleasure for me to meet President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. The dialog was constructive and very productive; we discussed a variety of issues of mutual interest. We also had productive meetings in a number of ministries of Uzbekistan, during which we focused on the practical issues of the upcoming 2016 presidency of Uzbekistan in the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States, and preparations towards the next meeting of the Ministerial Council in Tashkent.
I would like to notice that cooperation between OIC and Uzbekistan is mutually beneficial. Membership of your country promoted the establishment of effective links with other member states, enhanced the participation of Uzbekistan in the political and economic processes, and accelerated the attraction of financial resources to implement the major economic projects. The organization continues to support the initiatives of Uzbekistan in the international arena, and contributes to their success.
I want to emphasize the cooperation in culture and science, which are the most important aspects of our partnership. I have seen the sights of Tashkent, one was the Hazrat Imam Complex, and enjoyed my visit. In my opinion, the growth of cooperation in the tourism industry is an interesting issue. The Uzbek land has a number of unique architectural monuments and historical sites of the Islamic civilization. I believe that soon the country will become one of the centers of global tourism.
Today, Uzbekistan is a country of ethnic and religious tolerance, with a dynamic economy and a stable political system. I want to underscore that we will continue to support programs to promote trade relations, attract investments, and implement industrial projects which are of mutual interest to both Uzbekistan and the countries of the Muslim world.”
