First meeting of the Uzbek-Afghan Commission: issues of struggle against transnational organized crime were discussed

On February 10, the first meeting of the Uzbek-Afghan joint commission on security issues was held in Tashkent, UzA reported.
The agreement on the establishment of the commission was reached during the official visit of the President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to Uzbekistan December 4-6. The commission included representatives of the apparatus of the Security Councils, law enforcement and security forces of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism and extremism, the issues of combating the arms trade and drug trafficking, the legalization of criminal proceeds and other forms of transnational organized crime were considered.

An exchange of views took place on the issues of intensifying cooperation in the sphere of preventing and suppressing customs offenses and ensuring the security of state borders.

The importance of ensuring security and smooth implementation of joint development projects and infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Mazar-e Sharif - Herat railway and the Surkhon - Pul-e-Humri power transmission lines, as well as the protection of manufacturing enterprises, centers, trading houses in Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif.

Particular attention was paid to ensuring timely implementation of the agreements in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres reached within the framework of the official visit of the President of Afghanistan to Uzbekistan.
The sides noted the growing dynamics of the development of multifaceted interaction between the two states. There was expressed readiness to expand both bilateral and multilateral cooperation in implementing joint projects in transit-transport, infrastructure, trade-economic, investment, energy and other vital spheres.

The meeting reaffirmed the close interrelationship between peace, sustainable development and security in ensuring long-term stability in Afghanistan and Central Asia. In this connection, the importance of providing support to Afghanistan through the expansion of regional cooperation and the more effective use of political and diplomatic instruments to solve the Afghan problem was stressed in order to create a zone of peace, cooperation and prosperity in Central Asia.
