8.4 Trillion Soums to Be Allocated to Develop the Aral Sea Region in Next Few Years

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved the State Program on development of the Aral Sea region in 2017-2021. The program provides for measures to improve the environmental and socio-economic situation, living conditions of the population, and effective implementation of investment projects to mitigate environmental disaster.

In total, for the implementation of the State Program on development of the Aral Sea region will be allocated more than 8.4 trillion soums.

The Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan will create the Aral Sea Region Development Fund in order to provide a secure and stable financial support for the implementation of measures for the further development of the Aral Sea region and massive improvement of the conditions and quality of life of locals.

The Decree of the President also requested to exempt newly established micro and small enterprises in industry (except CNG filling stations) from the single tax payment located in Muynak, Shumanay, Kanlykul, Takhtakupir, Chimbay districts of Karakalpakstan, as well as Yangiarik and Koshkopir districts of Khorezm region up to January 1, 2027; in other districts of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region up to January 1, 2022.

From February 1, 2017 the monthly parent fee for the maintenance of children in pre-school educational institutions, specialized boarding schools with in-depth study of specific subjects, classes in Barkamol Avlod centers, music and art schools, as well as cultural centers located in Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region will be 2 times lower than established in the republic.

In addition, from February 1, 2017 Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region will introduce a new kind of social benefits in the form of one-time financial assistance in the amount of from 2 to 5 minimum wages, appointed by decision of the Commission of the rural or mahalla citizens’ assemblies to needy families, the first all, single citizens, pensioners, families with disabled breadwinners and other low-income categories of the population and families.

Furthermore, from 1 February 2017 the procedure will be established, according to which the sales of railway and air passenger tickets to the residents of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region will be carried out in special discounted rates.
