Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed a decree on the dissolution of Majilis - the lower chamber of the parliament of the republic, Lenta.ru writes. This announcement was published at the official website of the President on Wednesday, January 20.
“I decide to dissolve the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan of the fifth convocation," the text of the decree says. The document also contains the date of special elections of deputies - March 20, 2016.
Deputies of the lower house asked the head of state to make a decision on the dissolution of Majilis on 13 January. All 103 lawmakers voted for this decision unanimously.
By law, the president decided to dissolve the Majilis after consultations with the chairpersons of both chambers of parliament and the prime minister.
Kazakh leader appoints early elections simultaneously with the decision of pre-scheduled termination of powers of the lower chamber. They are held within the next two months.
Powers of deputies of the fifth convocation had to expire in the autumn of 2016.
