Uzbekistan's population oversteps 32 million

According to preliminary data by State Statistics Committee, the permanent population of the Republic of Uzbekistan as on January 1, 2017 reached 32121,1 thousand people having increased year-on 545,8 thousand people or 1.7%. At the same time, the urban population made up 16238,5 thousand (50.6% of the total population), rural population – 15882,6 thousand people (49,4%).

According to preliminary data, in January-December 2016, the number of births amounted to 726,8 thousand children, respectively, the birth rate made up 22.8 ppm. In comparison with the similar period of 2015 the indicator has decreased by 0.7 ppm (in 2015 - 23.5 ppm).

A significant decline in the fertility rate could be observed in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (from 23.3 to 21.8 ppm), Surkhandarya (27.0 to 25.8 ppm), Bukhara (from 21.9 to 20.9 ppm), Tashkent (from 21.1 to 20.3 ppm), Andijan (from 24.1 to 23.4 ppm), Kashkadarya (from 26.2 to 25.5 ppm and Syrdarya (from 22.8 to 22.1 ppm).

The rise in fertility rate was also observed in Tashkent (from 18.0 to 18.4 ppm and Navoi region (from 22.0 to 22.1 ppm).

January-December 2016 saw 154.5 thousand deaths, respectively, the mortality rate made up 4.8 ppm.

At the same time, the increased death rate was observed in Navoi (from 4.5 to 4.7 ppm), Surkhandarya (from 4.1 to 4.3 ppm), Syrdarya (from 4.8 to 5.0 ppm), Kashkadarya (from 4.0 to 4.1 ppm), Khorezm (from 4.5 to 4.6 ppm) regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (from 4.6 to 4.7 ppm). The decline in mortality rate was observed in Andijan (from 5.2 to 5.1 ppm), Namangan (from 4.7 to 4.6 ppm), Tashkent (from 5.9 to 5.8 ppm), Fergana (from 5.0 to 4.9 ppm) regions and Tashkent city (from 6.9 to 6.8 ppm).

Out of the total number of registered deaths, 59.6% were from circulatory diseases, 9.4% from neoplasms, 6.7% - accidents, poisonings and injuries, 5.9% - from diseases of the digestive system, 4.9% from respiratory diseases, 1.9% - from infectious and parasitic diseases, 11.6% from other diseases.

In the reporting period, there were 7.7 thousand deaths of children under 1 year age, while infant mortality rate made up 10.5 ppm. Out of the total number of registered deaths of children under 1 year age, 56.7% died from conditions arising in the perinatal period, 22.4% from respiratory diseases, 9.8% from congenital anomalies, 3.1% - from infectious and parasitic diseases, 1.9% - accidents, poisonings and injuries, 0.6% - from diseases of the digestive system, 5.5% from other diseases.

For the period January-December 2016, Registrar's offices registered 275.1 thousand of marriages and 29.4 thousand divorces. The marriage rate made up 8.6 ppm while the divorce rate comprised 0.9 ppm.

The decline in the marriage rate was observed in all regions of the Republic. A significant decline in the marriage rate was observed in Kashkadarya (from 10.4 to 9.3 ppm), Namangan (from 9.6 to 8.6 ppm), Tashkent (from 9.8 to 8.9 ppm), Khorezm (from 9.4 to 8.5 ppm), Surkhandarya (from 9.8 to 9.1 ppm) regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (from 7.8 to 7.1 ppm).

At the same time, divorce rates went up in Jizzakh (from 0.6 to 0.7 ppm), Syrdarya (from 1.0 to 1.1ppm), Khorezm (from 0.6 to 0.7 ppm).

The number of arrivals in the reporting period amounted to 141.7 thousand people, number of departures – 168.3 thousand. Migration balance amounted to minus 26.6 thousand people (in 2015 minus 29.3 thousand). The most significant migration was observed in Tashkent (minus 5.5 thousand), Samarkand (minus 4.4 thousand people) regions and Karakalpakstan (minus 4.6 thousand people).
