The Spanish company Talgo will supply two high-speed electric trains with increased capacity before September of this year, the Deputy Chairman of JSC "Uzbekistan Railways", Ravshan Ikramov, told Uzbekistan Today.
It is planned that the new trains will be operated during the launching of a high-speed railway line Tashkent-Bukhara in September, the construction of which is estimated at more than $ 400 million. Its launch will reduce the time for delivery of passengers and cargo by 2 hours and lower operating costs by more than 30%.
"At present, we made a prepayment of 30 %. The company has already started work on manufacturing the trains and it is under contract to deliver two trains before September," said Ikramov.
The contract value was not disclosed. The contract for the supply of two trains was signed in November last year at the International Investment Forum in Tashkent. The trains will have two additional cars.
