Speed limits to be set within residential areas

The new edition of the road safety rules will come out on March 1, 2016, according to which the speed of a vehicle must not exceed 30 km/h in residential areas, the senior inspector of Central Administrative Board of Road safety MIA Mansour Rihsiev informed Uzbekistan Today.

"The rules of the road safety in the new edition contain amendments regarding speed limits. Individual chapters cover rules for speed limit of traffic on highways and residential areas. Within the residential areas vehicle speed must not exceed 30 km/h to ensure public safety," said Rihsiev.

He also noted that the local authorities, in agreement with the Main Department of Internal Affairs, are entitled to raise the speed limit on sections for specific types of vehicles, only in case the road conditions allow safe movement at a faster rate.
