Elections of aqsaqals (chairmen) of citizens' meetings and their advisers will be held in Uzbekistan in May-June 2016.
The Resolution on this occasion the Senate of Oliy Majlis adopted on March 5. A special commission was set up in the upper house of the parliament to promote organization and conduction of the forthcoming elections. It is scheduled to elect 9764 aqsaqals of citizens' meetings and more than 99.000 of their advisers.
Citizens' meeting in Uzbekistan is an institution of self-government, which operates in townships, villages and makhallas of cities and has the right to represent interests of population and to take decisions on its behalf, acting in the corresponding territory.
