The capital’s Mirzo Ulugbek Park of Culture and Recreation has hosted the republican contest of singers in memory of the people’s favorite singer Tavakkal Kodirov.
The contest organized by the Republican Research and Methodological Center for folk art and cultural-enlightening works got involved about 100 participants, 20 of who reached the final round.
“All participants showed high quality performing skills in their own manner, because it is impossible to repeat “golden” voice of Tavakkal Kodirov,” said Sultonali Mannopov, the People’s Artist of Uzbekistan, head of jury.
Tavakkal Kodirov began his singing career in 50s of the 20th century, and created a singular style, being a follower of the school established by outstanding singers of that time Jurakhon Sultonov, Ma’murjon Uzoqov, and Komiljon Otaniyozov.
The grand prize of the contest went to a duet from Tashkent – Zokhidjon Madaliev and Mirshod Elov. All winners were awarded with certificates of honor and keepsake gifts.
The contest organized for the first time, turns to be traditional and will be held once in two years.
