Within the framework of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the USA, more than 40 documents, including trade and economic investment agreements, were signed in Washington. One of the largest contracts was signed with Sky Power Global, one of the most successful and largest developers of solar energy projects in the industry. The company plans to implement a project to create a production of solar panels, as well as the construction of photo-power plants in Uzbekistan. The project provides for the construction of solar photovoltaic plants with a capacity of 1000 MW on the principles of public-private partnership (PPP) and is estimated in 1.3 billion US dollars.
President of the company "Sky Power Global" Kerry Alder told in an interview to "Uzbekistan Today" about the specifics of the project in Uzbekistan and further prospects of cooperation between the two countries:
- Uzbekistan is extremely rich in sunshine - 340 sunny days a year, the temperature and climate are ideal for the implementation of such a project. The use of solar energy, in our opinion, is not only a "one hundred percent investment hit", but also an investment that will justify itself in the very near future. Today Uzbekistan is going through an incredibly progressive stage, and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's reforms are stimulating the effective development of the energy sector. I should note that your country's leader has a clear understanding and vision of the development of solar energy in Uzbekistan, and I am confident that as soon as Sky Power enters the Uzbek market, dozens of other promising companies will be flooded with it. And I think that's fine. We are ready to the production and introduction of new technologies, the creation of jobs, the training of specialists and the development of economically important projects in Uzbekistan.
