In the capital, the issues of growing gene-knockout varieties of cotton

The Genomics and Bioinformatics Center received an order for seed preparation of new gene-knockout varieties of cotton.

The seminar was attended by more than 100 heads of farms of the republic, growing gene-knockout varieties of cotton "Porloq" as well as representatives of the Centers for Cotton Seed Growing.

The seminar was opened by the Minister of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the director of the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics, academician Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, who noted the special role of farmers in the introduction of new innovative developments and the development of agriculture in the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the discussions, Academician I. Abdurakhmonov answered many questions that concern farmers. During the seminar, detailed reports of the scientists of the Center for Agricultural Technology of Porloq varieties and new innovative developments were also presented. On the day of the seminar the farmers were directly acquainted with the scientific research presented in the Center. Farmers expressed their admiration for the "Porloq" gen-knockout varieties of cotton and noted that they intend to continue growing Porloq varieties and expand their crops, as well as to introduce new innovative developments of the scientists of the Center. The Center received orders for the supply of seeds of a number of other new varieties of cotton, such as Ravnak, Baraka and Sahovat, developed by the scientists of the Center.

As a result of the seminar, it was decided to expand the cooperation of farmers with the scientists of the Center, and also to hold similar seminars annually.

For reference:
The cotton varieties of the "Porloq" series were obtained by the scientists of the Center with the help of innovative gene-knockout technology. These varieties have simultaneously improved several agronomically valuable traits, which was not yet in the world history of selection and genetic engineering of plants: high yield, early maturity, long and high-quality fiber, drought and salt tolerance. Fibers of "Porloq" varieties are 8-10 mm longer than traditional varieties and have an additional cost of $ 0.25 per kg on the world market. Currently, "Porloq" varieties are grown on the territory of more than 60 thousand hectares in the country and further expansion of crops is expected. This is the only zoned biotech cotton grade in the world with improved fiber quality without negative impact on yield and precocity.
