Barcelona Center for International Relations: Mirziyoyev, among those who change the international situation

One of the leading Spanish "think tanks" - the Barcelona Center for International Relations (CIDOB) compiled a list of outstanding individuals and events that influenced the international situation in 2017.

The list includes 40 persons and events. Once again, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev entered the rating.

According to the drafters, the leader of Uzbekistan was noted by the fact that with his election to the post of the President of the country, "a qualitatively new atmosphere and optimism, which many did not expect." In particular, it is noted:

"Today Uzbekistan is experiencing a" special spring "under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who during the first year of his activity, breaking all forecasts and stereotypes, initiated the process of opening a country that the Uzbek people are already seriously feeling. Dozens of political prisoners have been released, about three thousand people have been pardoned, thousands of people have been excluded from the so-called "black list" of the special services, and the press began raising previously forbidden topics. All these measures, coupled with diplomatic initiatives to improve relations with neighboring countries, created a new atmosphere in Uzbekistan, awakening optimism both inside and outside the country, which many did not expect. "

It should be reminded that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev entered the list of CIDOB and following the results of 2016. Even then it was noted that with him one can expect new trends in Uzbekistan's foreign policy.
